General Information

British Cycling

British Cycling is the national governing body for cycling in Britain. It works with Scottish Cycling and Welsh Cycling and supports participation, clubs, coaches, officials, events, talent development, and the Great Britain Cycling Team across multiple disciplines.

Disciplines

British Cycling’s programmes include BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle Park, road, track, mountain bike, cyclo-cross, cycle speedway, para-cycling, and additional competitive and recreational activity. Discipline commissions provide specialist input into the development and governance of each area.

BMX Racing and Freestyle

The organization publishes national BMX Racing and BMX Freestyle series calendars, championship information, technical regulations, rankings, membership and licence requirements, and rider guidance. BMX Freestyle development includes club support, coaching, national competition, and a talent pathway intended to help riders progress toward Great Britain Cycling Team programmes.

Clubs, coaching, and talent development

British Cycling supports affiliated clubs, qualified coaches, volunteers, regional structures, and national talent programmes. Riders can enter through local clubs and sessions, while developing athletes may progress through discipline-specific pathways, assessment, national competition, and international selection.

Events and participation

Individual events publish their own venue, category, membership, licence, registration, practice, equipment, timetable, and spectator information. Requirements differ between BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle, and other disciplines, so participants should not rely on a general calendar entry alone.

Before joining or competing: use the official British Cycling website to select the correct discipline and event and confirm membership, licence, category, registration, technical guide, venue, schedule, coaching, and results. Event-specific documents override general organization information.
