Wednesday Night Skate NYC is one of New York City’s best-known weekly street skates: a Wednesday night rollout that brings a large pack of inline skaters into Manhattan streets during the main outdoor season.
Skaters meet just before rollout at the south-side steps of Union Square Park, near Broadway and East 14th Street. The regular plan is to roll out around 8:00 PM, usually April through October, weather permitting. The route changes by week, but the format is consistent: a moderated city skate with regroup points, steady movement, and the feeling of skating New York at night with a real crowd.
Expect a moderately paced urban ride of roughly 12–15 miles over about two hours, finishing back near Union Square when the standard route is used. It is social, but it is not a beginner lesson; skaters should be comfortable stopping, turning, keeping pace with a group, and handling city-street conditions after dark.

I always bring my GoPro because this skate is full of amazing moments. The city lights, the tunnels, and the bridges make for epic footage. If you love capturing movement and energy, this is the perfect event.”
Wednesday Night Skate is an absolute blast! The energy of skating through NYC with a huge crowd is unreal. The route is well-planned, with plenty of smooth roads and iconic city views. My only tip—bring good wheels because some streets can be rough!
This is my favorite way to spend a Wednesday night. The music, the lights, and the community make it feel like a rolling party. I usually stop for photos because the views are amazing. Definitely recommend!
This skate is my weekly cardio! The 12-mile route is long enough to push yourself, but there are enough stops to rest. I love how everyone encourages each other, especially on the uphill sections.
I convinced my whole friend group to come, and now we’re hooked. It’s so much fun skating in a pack, weaving through traffic together. We’ve even made friends with other skaters who now join us for weekend sessions.
I was visiting NYC and decided to join after seeing a post about it. Best decision ever! Skating through Times Square and under the bridges at night was surreal. It was a little intense at times, but the adrenaline rush was worth it.
I was a little nervous about joining because I’m not the fastest skater, but everyone was super welcoming. I stuck to the back, and a few experienced skaters helped me with tips. The vibe is fun, but be prepared for a workout!
I’ve been doing WNS for years, and it never gets old. The best part is the mix of people—some skaters are dancing, some are zooming, and others are just cruising. We always end up at a bar afterward, which makes for great post-skate stories!
