Wednesday Night Skate NYC is a long-running weekly street skate that meets on Wednesday nights during the main outdoor season, generally from April through October, weather permitting. Skaters typically gather on the south side of Union Square Park around 7:45 PM for an 8:00 PM rollout through New York City streets.
The route changes from week to week, which keeps the ride fresh and social. Expect an urban group-skate pace rather than a beginner lesson: participants should be comfortable stopping, turning, rolling in traffic-aware group conditions, and keeping up with a moving pack.
What to expect
Cadence: Wednesday nights during the outdoor skating season, weather permitting.
Meetup: South side of Union Square Park, near Broadway and East 14th Street.
Rollout: Usually around 8:00 PM after skaters gather.
Format: A changing social street-skate route through NYC.
Before you go
Check the organizer’s latest Instagram or Facebook update before traveling, especially during rain, poor street conditions, holiday weeks, or end-of-season schedule changes. Bring lights, water, protective gear, and skates that are ready for city pavement.
I always bring my GoPro because this skate is full of amazing moments. The city lights, the tunnels, and the bridges make for epic footage. If you love capturing movement and energy, this is the perfect event.”
Wednesday Night Skate is an absolute blast! The energy of skating through NYC with a huge crowd is unreal. The route is well-planned, with plenty of smooth roads and iconic city views. My only tip—bring good wheels because some streets can be rough!
This is my favorite way to spend a Wednesday night. The music, the lights, and the community make it feel like a rolling party. I usually stop for photos because the views are amazing. Definitely recommend!
This skate is my weekly cardio! The 12-mile route is long enough to push yourself, but there are enough stops to rest. I love how everyone encourages each other, especially on the uphill sections.
I convinced my whole friend group to come, and now we’re hooked. It’s so much fun skating in a pack, weaving through traffic together. We’ve even made friends with other skaters who now join us for weekend sessions.
I was visiting NYC and decided to join after seeing a post about it. Best decision ever! Skating through Times Square and under the bridges at night was surreal. It was a little intense at times, but the adrenaline rush was worth it.
I was a little nervous about joining because I’m not the fastest skater, but everyone was super welcoming. I stuck to the back, and a few experienced skaters helped me with tips. The vibe is fun, but be prepared for a workout!
I’ve been doing WNS for years, and it never gets old. The best part is the mix of people—some skaters are dancing, some are zooming, and others are just cruising. We always end up at a bar afterward, which makes for great post-skate stories!
